It was the last session of Jeff’s life drawing class and I was disappointed that the sessions would not continue after the easter break. However, I enjoyed the last session and got to experiment with carbothello pencils and midtown paper.
During week 25 we also had our academic assessment of our progress this year and I had been anticipating it’s coming for a while.Initially I was anxious because our progress was being assessed on the character and container city projects, which I felt were not my strongest projects.
Michael Powell, assessed my performance throughout the year and gave me feedback on how how he thought I was progressing throughout the year. He highlighted the major issues that I had throughout my character project and container city project. I must admit, learning that my marks in the container city project were low, was demoralizing, however, I had been expecting such a grade since the end of the project.
Michael ensured me that these marks did not reflect me as a student, and if I wanted to improve on my faults I would have to make a few improvements. Of which, mike suggested that I get achieve high grades in the dichotomous character project, the assessed presentation, the critical blogs and our long writing reflective essays. This would be sure to pull up my marks and ensure that I achieve the grades that I desire.
In regards to the character project, when suggesting to re-do the character, Mike advised that I focused on improving certain aspects of the female knight. It was advised to make sure that I maintain proper human proportion in the base mesh; that I model her in a relaxed pose and I portray an attraction to her face. Furthermore, Mike asked that I study 15th century armour, as the armour on my current mesh does not reflect realistic armour of that era; metal does not bend this way. I was instructed to make the armor look more heavy- to accentuate her intimidating nature.
Mike understood the personality and appearance of my character, moreover, he knew that I wasn't able to portray this in my final 3d outcome.Since I used Joan of arc for inspiration, Mike advised that I take more inspiration from her instead of making it up on the spot. Therefore, he gave me an action plan to research Joan of arc and understand the properties of armour.
Thus there is a lot of work to do, but I’m confident that if I stick to this plan of action, I will improve my grades.

It is amazing to see from this drawing how far I have improved since the start of the year. my confidence in my abilities has increased which is evident through my experimentation of various media and the confidence of my drawing lines when sketching the human form. With the help of Heather and Jeff I’ve grown to love life drawing over the months and I am very grateful. they have shown me that there is more to life drawing than drawing a person, it is also capturing a moment in time. Thank you both very much.
