For anyone considering visiting the convention I would seriously recommend that you do so. Egx Rezzed in a word was….game industry excellence packing into a London venue. Honestly, the convention is every game enthusiasts fantasy.
With innovative games like this, I am very optimistic about the future of video games.
I also got the chance to sit in an industry talk on the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), and how it can be used to make video games based on it’s understanding of human behaviour. the lecture was insightful and I was able to learn a great deal about AI. In the talk we spoke about the possibility of shepherding AI to mimic a parent child relationship and even delved into the forbidden territory of Artificial intelligence being able to think for itself. All of which, I felt privileged to be a part of this technological evolution.
I was able to meet and talk to many developers about their games and the inspirations behind the, additionally, I asked the developers many questions about the skills needed to become a game developer in the industry. In a conversation with Oliver Clarke, a former game art student, I learned of his experiences developing the video game ‘LA Cops’. additionally, he advised me to take inspiration from all sources; art, life; travelling etc as it can lead to some very creative and unique outcomes when developing video games.
Speaking with him, although nerve wracking at first, was truly inspirational. he shared words of wisdom into becoming a professional artist. Furthermore, he provided insight to the types of skills essential to working for Creative Assembly. My discussion with Kevin was captivating, most importantly it assured me that I am on the right path to achieve my goal.
Despite catching up, the reason why this experience was so important was because we were both able to see how much the other has progressed. I must admit it was a touching experience and I look forward to our next reunion.
You’ll have to excuse the cliche but I couldn’t have asked for a better guru.
